James River Splash

This was my very first swim race ever!

I was pretty nervous about doing this race as I have been out of town for 2 weeks with no access to a pool. I also felt a bit jet lagged and tired.

Anyhow I decided I would walk down to the park and check it out to see if I felt like doing the swim. Lucky for me TG Charlotte was there to peer pressure me into signing up, which of course I did.

Swimming 1 mile in open water without a wet suit was a first for me. I was not really worried about finishing but knew my endurance was lacking with so much time off. I did struggle a bit in the middle and had to resort to breast stroke for 5 minutes.

The current wasn't bad although it did seem to take an endless amount of time to get to the turnaround. At the turnaround I was expecting some great current to simply wash me down stream which did not materialize. And though I know it was faster going back I really didn't feel it. 41:15 was my final time, I am actually pleased with that as it was much better than I expected.

Now I am thinking about the Chris Greene Cable Swim in Charlottesville which is a 1 or 2 mile lake swim.

Anyone?
